Everyone at CCF would like to extend a huge thank you to the Zaccaria family and their incredibly hard working team that put together a truly fabulous Family and Friends Cocktail Party for Conquer Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday 14 May 2016.

This wonderful group of people raised an incredible amount of money with the final profit figure being a staggering

$58,009.00.

The Family and Friends Cocktail Party is organised bi-annually and since the first cocktail party this amazing family have raised a staggering $144,800.65 for CF research.

The team at CCF are in awe of your desire to help us raise money to help find the cure for Cystic Fibrosis. We cannot thank you enough.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all the people that came along and supported the event. We are sure you would agree that it was a truly wonderful night.

 

In January 2016 CCF received a bequest from the Will of Marjorie Gibson for the very generous amount of $20,000.

Marjorie and her husband, Lawrence, had 2 children with Cystic Fibrosis.  Eleanor died in 1953 at the age of 19 months and her sister, Gwenda, passed away aged 12 in 1972.  Gwenda was diagnosed at 6 months old and, whilst Eleanor was not officially diagnosed, her symptoms were very similar to Gwenda’s.

Marjorie recently passed away at the age of 96 and had always hoped that a cure would be found for Cystic Fibrosis.  We, too, hope that Marjorie’s wish will be fulfilled and her bequest of $20,000 will be put to good use to help fund research into finding a cure for CF.

Anyone interested in Bingo will love the Bingo events hosted each and every week by the Manwaring family and their team of incredible volunteers.

Bingo is held every Monday night at the Midland Sports Complex (Patterson Drive, Middle Swan) Wednesday evening at the Vasto Club (Vasto Place in Balcatta) and Friday nights at the Olympic Kingsway Sports Club (Bellerive Boulevard Madely).

High-rollers offering bigger cash prizes are held on the last Monday of each month at the Midland Sports Complex, the first Wednesday of each month at Vasto Club Balcatta and the last Friday of each month at the Olympic Kingsway Sports Club Landsdale.

All proceeds raised are donated to Conquer Cystic Fibrosis, to help fund the research required to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

Doors open from 5.30pm at all centres, with ‘eyes down’ at 7.30pm sharp.  The evening concludes around 10.00pm.

Free tea and coffee is offered with snacks and cold drinks available at cheap prices.  There is ample secure, patrolled parking and wheelchair access available.

It is a great opportunity to meet new people and have a great night out.  You never know – you may even win the big cash prize!

These events are only possible because of the generosity of our amazing volunteers Peter and Lisa Manwaring, who have no family connection to CF, and have been supporting our charity for the last 6 years. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

The next round of Conquer Cystic Fibrosis Scholarships closed on Friday 24 February 2017 at 4pm.

Up to three postgraduate PhD Scholarships are be offered through the partnership with Conquer Cystic Fibrosis, to foster careers in cystic fibrosis research and improve the life of everyone living with CF.

The scholarships are available in the following areas:

• Conquer Cystic Fibrosis Advanced Clinical PhD Scholarship
• Conquer Cystic Fibrosis Allied Health Professional PhD Scholarship
• Conquer Cystic Fibrosis Scientist PhD Scholarship

Successful applicants will join the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Multi-Disciplinary Team consisting of medical and allied health professionals.  This team has a strong and unique research platform of both clinical and laboratory research across multiple disciplines.

The successful scholarship recipients will be up-skilled in the area of CF for the next three years to ensure they are experienced, qualified and highly skilled. They will become an integral part of the hospital’s CF team on completion of their training.

Australia’s “queen of common sense” parenting Maggie Dent inspired more than 700 people at the entertainment centre in Bunbury earlier this year.  Those that attended this wonderful event laughed, cried and came out with a passion to do better by our boys.

Maggie supports our pursuit for medical advances and at the close of the evening declared that Cystic Fibrosis was a cause close to her heart.  She dedicated the show to Jordy Drayton, the daughter of a close friend who has Cystic Fibrosis.  Along with the other 3300 other Australians, 19-year-old Jordy desperately needs further medical advances.  Research is the key to giving our CF community a future and a greater quality of life.

So THANK YOU Maggie and thank you to each and every one of you who supported this wonderful event.
